WESTWOOD ( — Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center Tuesday was named as the top hospital in California and fifth best in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.

The publication’s study, in its 24th year, ranks nearly 5,000 medical centers across America and spans 16 medical specialties, from cancer to neurosurgery.

“Hospitals that rank near the top of at least six specialties earn a spot on the Honor Roll,” according to

UCLA, which also includes a Santa Monica campus, ranked nationally in 15 adult and 10 pediatric specialties.

The 466-bed hospital had more than 23,000 admitted patients and approximately 45,000 emergency room visits in 2012.
